In celebration of their beloved patron’s feast day, the Blessed Frederic Ozanam Parish community in Markham, Ont., welcomed His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo on Sept. 7. Blessed Frederic Ozanam is the founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which boasts upwards of 30,000 home visits to neighbours in need across the Greater Toronto Area every year.

The parish of Blessed Ozanam was established in 2017 and currently celebrates Sunday Masses at St. Brother Andre Catholic High School on 16th Ave. in Markham.

Since its establishment, the parish has faced many challenges in growing the community and raising the funds to build a new church — including both the pandemic itself, a post-pandemic economy, and challenging financial realities faced by many families. But despite these obstacles, the community continues to grow and thrive in remarkable ways.

The visit from His Eminence was a tremendous blessing to the parish as many were truly touched and uplifted by his presence.

In the words of Blessed Frederic Ozanam, “Let us do without hesitation whatever good lies at our hands.” Blessed Frederic Ozanam, pray for us!
